  • Five Professional Development talking points
    • Sustained (30 – 100 hours) professional learning for teachers is related to student achievement gains (SEDL,2007, Darling Hammond, 2009), showing a gain of 21%.
    • Good teaching is not an accident. It is the result of study, reflection, practice and hard work (Mizelle, 2010).
    • Time must be provided for teachers to participate in professional learning.
    • Teachers learning collaboratively improves student achievement (Gallimore, 2009).
    • Training alone does not equal transfer to classroom practice and working with students. A combination of training, practice, feedback and coaching does equal transfer to classroom practice. (Joyce and Calhoun,2010)
