Say goodbye to what seems to be the shortest summer ever! By now, you are finishing up the Back to School professional learning frenzy and getting school started. We had hoped the world would be settled down by now, but it appears that 2021-2022 will be another challenging year. If any group can be flexible, stay the course, work together, and focus on the kids, it is teachers. You got this!
Learning Forward Texas has several changes in store for this fall. LFTX will launch an updated website in September and a new member management system and event registration system. More information about this conversion and our fall online workshops will be coming soon.
We are excited to share that we led several in-person workshops this past summer with school districts from all over the state. Our trainers were so happy to be back leading and learning with teacher leaders and administrators. Contact us if you would like more information and pricing for in-person training.

Help our Friends at G. W. Carver Disaster Relief
On Tuesday, July 27th, 2021, an early morning fire rendered the G. W. Carver Middle School campus in Waco ISD unusable for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. As we know, teachers store their lifetime collection of teaching supplies, decorations, and curriculum in their classrooms over the summer. Some come in during the summer to prepare for the new school year. The fire devastated the teachers’ classrooms.
Fall is a busy time of year, with many school districts already starting school. Can you imagine starting school without supplies, decoration, and resources, much less a classroom? If you have a few dollars to spare, please help out these fellow educators. The district has compiled a list of the needs (available from Amazon, Scholastic, etc.) Click here for more information.
Board Member Spotlight
The Board Member Spotlight is a new feature in the Straight Forward Newsletter. Since LFTX is all about “connection,” we wanted you to connect with your current leadership.
And, so, each board member was asked to complete a survey so we could discover some fun facts about them to share with you. This month’s board member is Anna Jackson. Anna is the Executive Director of Leadership and Professional Development in Lubbock ISD. She served as LFTX President two years ago and has been on the LFTX board for four years.
What is the most unusual job you have had? What did you learn from that experience?
Costume Shop Mistress - They asked if I could sew. Silly me, I had made a wrap around skirt once in Home Ec and said yes. Little did I know that answer would qualify me to make all of the costumes for theatrical performances such as Anything Goes and The Robe. What I learned? 1) Understand the depth of the question before you give an answer, 2) Listen good in Home Ec. and 3) You can do more than you think when you have no choice!
If you could win an Olympic medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be?
IF I picked an event it would probably be ice skating, but in reality the medal I would probably qualify best for is falling!
Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I can make the best Antique Car Horn sound of anyone I know.
What's a movie you can practically quote from start to finish?
Monte Python - Holy Grail
What is one thing that you include in every meeting or professional learning session you design?
Learning Forward Texas has spent the summer curating resources just for you! Here are some we hope you’ll find helpful:
