That's a Wrap
With the 2021 LFTX Annual Conference in the rearview mirror, we need to take time to process and reflect on the messages shared by the fabulous keynotes and speakers. Joe Sanfelippo sharing stories of why “every interaction matters because every interaction could be the one they talk about for the rest of their lives.” To Jim Knight reminding us, “Coaches help us get a clear picture of reality.”
How can we continue the learning and excitement we felt during these sessions?
If you registered for the conference, you have access to the recorded sessions until July 16. Log in to the conference website to access the recordings.
Check out the Twitter #LFTXlearns from June 15 and 16. The tweets have many pearls of wisdom and ideas shared during sessions, distilled down to the essential concepts that participants want to remember.
How will you Connect- Collaborate and Cultivate your learning from the conference? Use this 3-2-1 Activity to help!
And finally, to the participants, thank you for attending the LFTX Annual Virtual Conference, and we hope you are making plans to participate in next year’s in-person Learning Forward Texas Annual Conference on June 20 - 22, 2022, at the Irving Convention Center.
From Our Sponsors
Thank you to our sponsors - Better Lesson, Corwin, Arken Academy, and Cora by Overdrive. We could not have put this conference together without their support.
Regional Affiliate News
Learning Forward Texas affiliates meet regularly to discuss relevant topics with anyone who leads professional learning, including directors, coordinators, instructional coaches, and campus leaders. Since COVID, meetings have been virtual, and most regions have decided to continue this format. That’s a great COVID Keep because regardless of your location, you can participate in any Affiliate meeting. Meetings dates have not been set for the 21-22 school year, so check back in August for more information.
We have regional affiliates organized in North Texas, Southeast Texas, and West Texas. We are looking for someone to manage a South Texas regional affiliate for the Austin or San Antonio area. Contact Lisa Ham at ED@learningforwardtexas.org if you have questions or are interested in forming a group in your region.
Board Member Spotlight
The Board Member Spotlight is a new feature in the Straight Forward Newsletter. Since LFTX is all about “connection,” we wanted you to get connected with your current leadership.
This month’s board member is Vicki Arrington, LFTX President-Elect. Vicki is the Coordinator - Coordinator of Digital Learning and Digital Resources at ESC Region 11 and has served on the LFTX board for four years.
If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?
Audible to help me escape to another world, Voxer to stay in touch with my peeps, and Amazon because I love to shop, and they make it so easy!
What book are you reading now?
The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. It is the best book I have read by her. It is historical fiction set in the Texas panhandle during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl era. It is so eye-opening. I wish I could be half as brave as Elsa.
What show immediately puts you in a good mood?
Any episode of The Office, I love the humor and the characters. Angela is my favorite. She says the funniest things.
What have you seen recently that made you smile?
My team! We recently had a meeting, and they were all so happy and satisfied with their work. It made me smile that I get the pleasure of leading such a fantastic group of humans. They are all so encouraging, kind, and helpful. It really made my heart smile. We get to laugh and have fun together, and I think that is so important.
What is one thing that you include in every meeting or professional learning session you design?
We always have a check-in of some sort because I want to know where my team is or where my learners are. It is so important to build those relationships.
Learning Forward Texas is constantly curating resources just for you! Here are some we hope you’ll find helpful:
