On January 4, 2021, Learning Forward Texas named Keller ISD and the Klein ISD Professional Learning Team winners of the 2021 Outstanding Professional Learning Award. LFTX Executive Director, Lisa Ham, presented Valerie Minor of Keller ISD and Monica Shallenberger of Klein ISD with their awards at their respective school board meetings.

Keller ISD’s LADDER program provides a unique experience for teachers to learn and grow in their craft. This cohort of passionate teachers participated in goal setting, observation, reflection, discussion, and its impact on classroom instruction.

Klein ISD presented a wide range of engaging opportunities offered to teachers including book studies on Klienversation podcasts, Reimagine Learning summit, Teacher Mentoring programs, and a very active Twitter account are just a few items developed and managed by this team.

The Learning Forward Texas Board would like to congratulate these two exceptional professional learning departments!

Board Member Spotlight
shelly.PNG

The Board Member Spotlight is a new feature in the Straight Forward Newsletter. Since LFTX is all about “connection,” we wanted you to get connected with your current leadership.

And, so, each board member was asked to complete a wacky survey so we could discover some fun facts about them to share with you. This month’s board member is Shelly Crofford, LFTX President. Shelly is the principal at Freiheit Elementary in Comal ISD in New Braunfels and has served on the LFTX board for 4 years.

What is your hidden talent? Say the ABCs backwards.

What's a movie you can practically quote from start to finish? You’ve Got Mail

If you could win an Olympic medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be?Figure Skating or floor exercise (no, I can't figure skate or do a floor routine, but what fun would it be?)

What is something you saw recently that made you smile? The sunlight and kids playing on the playground.

What is one thing that you include in every meeting or professional learning session you design? Opportunities to connect, an upbeat playlist (music) and a time for reflection to practice.

Learning Forward Texas is better because of dedicated board members like Shelly Crofford! Follow her on Twitter @plcisd
