  • Sustained (30 – 100 hours) professional learning for teachers is related to student achievement gains (SEDL, 2007, Darling Hammond, 2009), showing a gain of 21%.

  • Good teaching is not an accident. It is the result of study, reflection, practice and hard work (Mizelle, 2010).

  • Time must be provided for teachers to participate in professional learning.

  • Teachers learning collaboratively improves student achievement (Gallimore, 2009).

  • Training alone does not equal transfer to classroom practice and working with students. A combination of training, practice, feedback and coaching does equal transfer to classroom practice. (Joyce and Calhoun, 2010)
