We hate to say Goodbye, so let’s say So Long to two of our long-time LFTX Trainers and former Board Members. Janet Swan and Mark Welborn have decided to retire from Learning Forward Texas. Janet started on the LFTX Board of Directors in 2005 and Mark began serving on the LFTX Board of Directors in 2012. They have traveled all over the state presenting Tips, Tools and Techniques workshops for many years. We owe a big thanks to these educators who have helped grow leaders and have supported professional learning in Texas.

How to Thrive (and Help Others Thrive) in 2021-2022
By Sue Chapman
This past year has helped us see that learning, teaching, and leading are not simply cognitive activities. To be at our best as a leader, teacher, or learner requires emotional well-being. And to remain emotionally resilient when circumstances gnaw away at our well-being requires emotional intelligence, mindsets and skills that allow us to monitor and reset our emotional health. Board Member Spotlight
The Board Member Spotlight is a new feature in the Straight Forward Newsletter. Since LFTX is all about “connection,” we wanted you to connect with your current leadership.
And, so, each board member was asked to complete a survey so we could discover some fun facts about them to share with you. This month’s board member is Laura Adlis. Laura is the Coordinator of Professional Learning in Clear Creek ISD. She served as LFTX Financial Officer for two years and has been on the LFTX board for five years.
What is the most unusual job you have had? What did you learn from that experience?
I was a doula, supporting women in childbirth. I learned that when folks are in crisis or are
overwhelmed or panicked, they just need someone to step in, take charge, look them in the eye, tell them that what they are feeling/experiencing is to be expected, they are going to be ok, and give them something small and simple to do or focus on. This has proven true over and over again in other areas of life.
If you could win an Olympic medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be?
Building a fire in a fireplace or fire pit.
Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
Not. At. All.
What's a movie you can practically quote from start to finish?
The Princess Bride
What is one thing that you include in every meeting or professional learning session you design?
